Meal Planner
I built this to learn how to use Claude Code. I wanted to start with something practical that we’d actually use, and planning the week’s food fitted.
Each day has slots for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, filled from a recipe library. A finished week can be copied forward, and there’s a view of today’s meals.
The shopping list comes from the plan. The app gathers the ingredients from every recipe in the week, merges duplicates, and sorts them into groups such as produce, dairy, meat and pantry by matching words in their names. A quick-add panel of about 90 everyday items covers the things that aren’t in any recipe.
It’s built with React and Vite, styled with Tailwind, and installs on a phone as a web app. Firebase handles sign-in and stores the recipes, week plans and lists, and keeps a copy on the phone, so the app works without a signal and two people can edit the same week at once. I built it over three days in April 2026.
